With NFL free agency just days away, the breakdown of team needs for the 2021 NFL draft will change drastically with each signing. So grab draft streams with a grain of salt right now.
Grab the latest Adam Hoge drill from NBC Sports Chicago. He has the Bears attacking completely against offense with his first four picks.
In round 1, Hoge has the Bears as Virginia Tech offensive striker Christian Darrisaw. It’s a good choice, especially in light of the team’s decision to break up with Bobby Massie. Darrisaw is an absolute student and one of the best players on my board. It would be a great value if I fell to number 20.
In round 2, at number 52, he has the Bears Minnesota WR Rashod Bateman landing.
See, if Chicago comes out of the first two rounds with Darrisaw and Bateman? Think a dream comes true. But it will not happen. Bateman is a first round player and there is little or no chance of him reaching number 52.
I love the target position, but the choice is an illusion.
Hoge remains on the offensive in the third round and has the Bears landing the Ohio State Trey Sermon, a handsome aspirant who has all the shots the teams are looking for on an initial comeback.
Chicago has no depth behind David Montgomery (even with a healthy Tarik Cohen coming back) and Sermon, another banger among the attacks, would make a lot of sense.
The Bears’ first quarterback selection in this drill goes to Round 5, with Georgia’s Jamie Newman (last Wake Forest player). More of an athlete than a pure step, Newman has an NFL backup advantage that at this point in his career is projected as a staff coach. Not a great option.
