The first adventure of MCU phase 4 ended on Friday when Disney + aired the WandaVision final. The TV show was never supposed to open this phase of adventures, but the pandemic forced Marvel to change its schedule. All films were delayed and the first Disney + shows were also postponed as the health crisis halted several productions. This is how WandaVision ended up being the first MCU Phase 4 title of the year. The show received a great response from fans, making it the biggest show of any broadcast service. With each passing week, fans developed more and more theories about the various Easter eggs that Marvel planted in the series. Episode 9 gave many answers to some of our most important questions, though it left others unanswered. Future Marvel shows and movies will likely have at least some of the answers we’re looking for. While the Wanda and Vision story was satisfying to watch, some fans might be upset that we didn’t get clearer links to the upcoming MCU movies. This has never been wanted to do, and director Mark Shakman made it clear in a few interviews that preceded the WandaVision final. Marvel wanted to tell a particular story of loss and love, and WandaVision he did it. But Marvel also filmed many other exciting scenes that never reached the final cut of the nine episodes. Shakman was a guest of Smith Fatman Beyond podcast (via Murphy’s multiverse), where he addressed several questions about the program, explaining how the coronavirus pandemic forced the study to make changes to the series.
Initially, Marvel wanted to release the first three episodes simultaneously, as it did with critics who had access to these episodes before the Disney + premiere. But Marvel ended up showing only the first two episodes on the night of the premiere. The first three episodes focus on the various sitcom-based worlds that Wanda and Vision lived through. Only at the end of the third episode do we see Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) kick Geraldine / Monica (Teyonah Parris) out of the Westview hex. This would have helped with the story on opening night, as fans would have had an idea of where it was going to come out of the door. Some criticized the first two episodes as they did not seem to advance the plot.
However, Marvel was under enormous pressure to finish the episodes in time for the scheduled release. Shakman explains that they finished the final just two weeks before the official release date. They would have had to delay the final episode if they had stayed with the original three-episode release.
It is also interesting that, at some point, WandaVision would have had ten episodes, according to the director:
Well, yes, things were constantly changing and breaking down again. The story changed, especially many things in the real world and the ending. There was a lot of experimentation and a kind of proof of different things. Also at one point we had planned 10 episodes and ended up collapsing a couple, you know to make the pace feel a little better. But yes, they changed constantly, and of course, once we wrapped up the success of the pandemic in Atlanta and ended up having months off, so new changes occurred during post-production, ideas came up and they would produce small changes. a result.
Interestingly, there has been a lot of speculation in recent weeks WandaVision would have a tenth surprise episode.
Shakman also revealed that the ending would have had a spectacular scene showing how Wanda ended up getting the Darkhold. At some point, Monica would have teamed up with Ralph (Evan Peters), Darcy (Kat Dennings) and the twins to steal the magic book from the basement.
They should have beaten Scratchy, the rabbit that many people theorized could be Mephisto. According to Shakman, Scratchy would have become an unnamed demon protecting Darkhold, but the special effects did not end in time for this scene to be included at the end. Other special effects were also completed during the coronavirus blockages, which explains why they may not look as good as we might expect from Marvel studios.
Shakman, who directed the nine WandaVision episodes, also addressed the moment of the aerospace engineer that caused fans to speculate halfway through the series. Many people thought that this line was creating Reed Richards and therefore the Fantastic four. In reality, that moment was only conceived to shape Monica’s transformation into a superpowered being.
