DETROIT – The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 488,144 since Wednesday, including 12,333 deaths, state officials report.

Wednesday’s update includes 4,222 new cases and 51 additional deaths. The next a data update is expected on January 2, 2021.

New cases of COVID-19 are slowing, but deaths remain high in Michigan. Tests have slowed over the holidays, with more than 35,000 diagnostic tests reported a day, with a positive rate that has dropped by about 8% over the past week. Hospitalizations have slowly declined, but remain relatively high, even in critical care and ventilator use.

Michigan’s 7-day moving average for daily cases was 2,602 on Wednesday, nearly the lowest in several weeks. The seven-day average death toll was 74. The state’s mortality rate is 2.5%. The state also reports “active cases,” which were recorded Wednesday at 157,500. More than 318,000 have recovered in Michigan.

According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 6.5 million have recovered in the U.S., with more than 20 million cases reported nationwide. More than 340,000 have died in the United States

Worldwide, more than 82.5 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 1.8 million have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. The actual figures are certainly much higher, due to limited evidence, different ways in which nations count the dead, and the deliberate misinformation of some governments.

The United States added a second COVID-19 vaccine to its arsenal on Friday, December 19, boosting efforts to combat such a serious outbreak that the nation regularly records more than 3,000 deaths a day.

The much-needed doses are expected to arrive Monday after the Food and Drug Administration authorized the emergency deployment of the vaccine developed by Moderna Inc. and the National Institutes of Health.

Governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer announced that the state is reviewing its COVID-19 order to resume high school face-to-face classes, reopen certain indoor entertainment venues, and allow contactless outdoor sports and fitness classes.

The state is it is currently in a “pause” that put stricter COVID-19 regulations in restaurants, schools and more, however this order was scheduled to expire on Sunday (December 20).

Now, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has released a revised version of the order, which will run through Jan. 15.

A new tool created by Michigan health officials can calculate the likelihood that a person will have COVID-19 and the severity of their infection based on their life situation and personal behaviors.

He Michigan Department of Health and Human Services launched “CV19 CheckUp”: a free and anonymous tool that assesses the risks of someone associated with COVID-19.

“This tool, which we will make available to all Michiganders, helps people understand their risk based on their life situation and personal behavior, and offers recommendations to reduce these risks and, at the same time, connect people to services. if necessary, ”said Dr. Alexis Travis, senior deputy director of the Agency for Aging and Adult Services.

Travis said the tool can be used by all Michigan residents, but is specifically designed to help adults 60 and older. It is anonymous and does not require any name, email address or identifier of any kind.

The tool used artificial intelligence to analyze each person using an online questionnaire. It is designed for those who are considered high risk.

The tool ‘s algorithms are driven by science and medicine, using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.
