This is what you need to know on September 10, 2021

DETROIT – Michigan reported 6,095 new cases of COVID-19 and 59 virus-related deaths on Friday – an average of 3,047.5 cases over the past two days.

Friday’s update brings the total number of confirmed COVID cases in Michigan to 970,412, including 20,506 deaths. These figures exceed 964,317 cases and 20,447 deaths as of Wednesday.

The deaths announced Friday include 44 identified during a Vital Records review.

Tests have increased to approximately 20,000 reported diagnostic tests per day on average, with the Positive rate of 7 days at 9.89% on Wednesday, slightly higher than the previous week. The positive percentage of tests has been steadily increasing since the end of June, when it was the lowest. Hospitalizations have steadily increased for several weeks.

Cases are on the rise again in Michigan. The state’s 7-day moving average for daily cases was 1,875 on Wednesday, a significant jump since early July. The average seven-day death toll was 22 on Wednesday. The state mortality rate is 2.1%. The state also reports “active cases,” which ranked 57,000 on Wednesday.

Detroit opens the programming of the third dose of COVID vaccines

Detroit has opened schedules for residents with compromised immune systems to receive a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Residents must have been fully vaccinated for at least six months and have compromised the immune system to schedule an appointment for a third dose.

Michigan health officials strongly recommend that schools require universal masking when students return to learn in person.

Last month, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services updated its guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to school buildings.

CDC recommends that vaccinated people wear masks to schools, in some indoor settings

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends that even vaccinated people wear masks inside areas of the United States where coronavirus is on the rise.

The CDC on Tuesday, July 27 cited new information about the ability of the delta variant to spread among vaccinated people. The CDC also recommended indoor masks for all teachers, staff, students, and school visitors regardless of vaccination status.

The CDC said that in the United States most new infections occur among unvaccinated people. But “advanced” infections, which usually cause milder illnesses, can occur in vaccinated people.
