This is what you need to know on September 3, 2021

DETROIT – Michigan reported 4,494 new cases of COVID-19 i 91 virus-related deaths Wednesday: an average of 2,247 cases in a two-day period.

Of the 91 deaths announced Wednesday, 36 were identified during a Vital Records review.

Wednesday’s update brings the total number of confirmed COVID cases in Michigan to 951,192, including 20,347 deaths. These figures exceed 946,698 cases and 20,256 deaths, as of Monday.

Tests have increased to approximately 20,000 reported diagnostic tests per day on average, with the Positive rate of 7 days at 9.44% on Wednesday, slightly higher than the previous week. The positive percentage of tests has been steadily increasing since the end of June, when it was at a minimum. Hospitalizations have increased 231% since July 1.

Cases are on the rise again in Michigan. The state’s 7-day moving average for daily cases was 1,925 on Wednesday, a significant jump since early July. The average seven-day death toll was 26 on Wednesday. The state mortality rate is 2.2%. The state also reports “active cases,” which were recorded Wednesday at 39,500.

Michigan has reported more than that 9.6 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered as of Wednesday, with 65.9% of more than 16 residents who have received at least one dose while 57.4% of more than 12 residents they are considered completely vaccinated.

The flu is expected to circulate more this year due to fewer precautions against COVID

Detroit opens the programming of the third dose of COVID vaccines

Detroit has opened schedules for residents with compromised immune systems to receive a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Residents must have been fully vaccinated for at least six months and have compromised the immune system to schedule an appointment for a third dose.

The third doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which were approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will be offered at the TCF Center for those who have an appointment.

MDHHS “strongly recommends” that Michigan schools require universal masking when students return

Michigan health officials strongly recommend that schools require universal masking when students return to learn in person.

Last month, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services updated its guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to school buildings.

“As many students have not yet been vaccinated and students under the age of 12 are not yet eligible, layered prevention measures, including universal masking, should be put in place for consistent in-person learning to keep children, staff and families safe, ”an MDHHS said release.

This update supports the MDHHS guidelines in the Centers for disease prevention and control.

CDC recommends that vaccinated people wear masks to schools, in some indoor settings

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends that even vaccinated people wear masks inside areas of the United States where coronavirus is on the rise.

The CDC on Tuesday, July 27 cited new information about the ability of the delta variant to spread among vaccinated people. The CDC also recommended indoor masks for all teachers, staff, students, and school visitors regardless of vaccination status.

The CDC said that in the United States most new infections occur among unvaccinated people. But “advanced” infections, which usually cause milder illnesses, can occur in vaccinated people.
