Those who aspire to be a presidential candidate for the PLD

After meeting for almost seven hours, the Political Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) yesterday informed possible candidates for the presidency of the Republic of this political organization, for the 2024 elections.

To date, seven have presented their intentions, according to PLD General Secretary Charles Mariotti, who added that the issue was discussed superficially during the meeting.

However, the also former Silver Mountain senator clarified that these are “aspiring presidential candidates,” that the purple party statutes stipulate that pre-candidates must be approved by the Central Committee.

He also revealed that to date those who have taken the first step have been the former Minister of Public Works, and the last presidential candidate of the PLD, Gonzalo Castell; the former vice-president Margarita Cedeño, and the mayor of Sant Jaume Abel Martínez.

Likewise, Mariotti mentioned the former Minister of the Environment Francisco Domínguez Brito, the former Minister of Labor Maritza Hernández, and the former Ministers of Education Andrés Navarro and Carlos Amarante Baret.

But the list is not definitive, as the Political Committee assured that the “renewal process” of the PLD is still very young, so names can still be added to the group of aspirants.

“They’re not all they are nor are they all they are,” Mariotti expressed.

The committee referred to possible candidacies at a previous meeting, when the PLD secretary assured that those aspiring to the presidential pre-candidacy should meet with him and the party president, Danilo Medina.

“The interested parties will have to meet with the party president and the general secretary, so the guidelines are drawn up, with the aim of not contradicting the process of transformation and reorganization to choose the new middle authorities and of the party ‘s bases, “Mariotti said in mid – March.
