Duffy also saw police attempting to enter the crowd as water bottles and at least one smoke bomb rained down around 4:30 p.m. Duffy said a “silence” fell on the plaza as police blocked the three entrances to the plaza with police lines. D.C. police allowed protesters to leave through a barricade, and Black Lives Matter Plaza was completely evacuated, Duffy said. He said many Trump supporters tried to leave Black Lives Matter Plaza but were chased by protesters. Earlier in the day, thousands of people in Downtown DC waved “Stop stealing” and “Four more years”. The two most important groups in the demonstration were the “Million Maga March” and the “Women for America”. Both groups are calling for “transparency” as the Electoral College convenes to seal Biden’s victory. Freedom Plaza is difficult to get crowded view from the ground level. Best effort. The pro-Trump rally spread between three events this morning — it was the Jericho March in Mall and another rally in the Supreme Court. pic.twitter.com/XvG9YncjgQ – Alejandro Alvarez (@aletweetsnews) December 12, 2020 Some protesters began filtering at Black Lives Matter Plaza on Friday afternoon, and some were already trading thorny words with those inside the plaza. On Friday, WTOP’s Ken Duffy said he saw an exchange in which supporters of President Trump began shouting back and forth with opponents, before a Trump supporter shouted “I see you tomorrow.” DC police said five protesters were arrested on charges of assault from Friday night to Saturday morning. Of those arrested, three were from Maryland, another from Virginia and one from New York. The weekend rallies come a month after the pro-Trump protest, which drew at least 10,000 people to the capital. Trump cheered his supporters on by driving his limousine and ended up with scattered clashes between Trump supporters and DC-Area activists near Black Lives Matter Plaza. Rallies show strength on Saturday, two days before Election College convenes to formally elect Joe Biden as the next president. Trump refuses to acknowledge the election, citing unsubstantiated allegations of fraud. The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the case that overturned Biden’s election victory, ending an attempt to dismiss before the country’s Supreme Court legal issues rejected by state and federal judges. Despite the verdict, recently pardoned National Security Adviser Michael Flynn spoke to the crowd on Saturday and encouraged them to believe in President Trump’s attempt to overturn the election results. Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who was pardoned last month, addressed a rally at Independence Plaza where Trump supporters chanted “Fly like Flynn.” At Independence Plaza, protesters cheered as Marine One flew over the crowd on Saturday afternoon. President Trump has previously said he plans to travel to West Point, New York, to attend a military-naval football game. The Freedom Plaza rally organizers seem intent on avoiding clashes, telling protesters to avoid certain hotels and referring to large areas of Washington city as a “no-go zone.” The event at the mall, known as the Jericho March, has been described on its website as a multi-hour “prayer rally” with a series of sermons and speakers “praying that the walls of corruption and election fraud will fall down.” This is a growing story.
