Three days after Hurricane Ida, the French Quarter regained power; most of New Orleans is still dark | Hurricane Center

Three days after Hurricane Ida Category 4 wiped out power throughout New Orleans and much of southeastern Louisiana, the lights have begun to flicker in the French Quarter.

Residents began reporting on social media Wednesday night that they were back in power.

About 11,500 customers were the first to regain power Wednesday morning. More than a million people were still without electricity as of Wednesday at noon.

On Wednesday morning, homes in the Little Woods neighborhood of New Orleans East gained power, as did Veterans Affairs Hospital in downtown New Orleans and the New Orleans Fire Department.

Entergy New Orleans has approximately 200,000 business and residential customers, all of them without electricity since Sunday night, when catastrophic winds and fiery rain from Ida ravaged the city. In addition, the power supply of some 800,000 Intergy Louisiana customers in other suburban parishes was turned off by the storm, causing the company to lose the eight main transmission lines that supply electricity to the subway area.
