Golfer Tiger Woods was injured Tuesday in a car accident near Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Emergency personnel responded to a rollover accident at approximately 7:12 a.m. local time, and removed Woods from the vehicle using the “jaws of life.” He was taken to hospital for injuries, but his condition is unknown at this time.
Woods’ car “suffered significant damage” in the crash, according to the bailiff’s department.
Emergency personnel responded to a rollover accident at approximately 7:12 a.m. in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. A police source said the initial report of the crash scene indicated the possibility of two broken legs and that the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
“Tiger Woods had a car accident this morning in California, where he suffered multiple leg injuries,” Steinberg said in a statement. “He is currently in surgery and we thank him for his privacy and support.”
According to the bailiff’s department, the “one-vehicle overturning traffic collision” occurred at the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes. “The vehicle suffered significant damage.” He was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Chris Thomas, a representative from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, told ESPN’s Mark Schlabach that rescue personnel had to remove Woods from the windshield of the van. Another car, which had stopped and parked on the side of the road to help Woods shortly after the crash, was hit by another vehicle coming from the hill. Thomas said it was a minor car accident with no injuries.
Woods, who was recovering from a back procedure that was performed Dec. 23, was in the area for the Genesis Invitational, a PGA Tour event he is hosting at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades. The tournament is run by its foundation. According to video footage and photos, it looks like Woods hit a curb and pulled out a sign of rolling hills. Luggage could be seen outside the vehicle.
On Sunday, in an interview with CBS during the broadcast of the final round, Woods suggested that he had not yet increased golf activity after his fifth back procedure and did not give a timeline for his return.
But posts on social media on Monday and Tuesday showed he had stayed in the area, apparently to film several shots and scenes for GolfTV, a broadcast entity with which he has a sponsorship deal. Actor David Spade and former NBA star Dwyane Wade posted photos with Woods on social media from the Rolling Hills Country Club. GolfTV and Golf Digest have a partnership in which Woods is paid to provide content. He is believed to have been on his way to another session with the group on Tuesday.
Justin Thomas, one of Woods ’friends on the PGA Tour, talked about the car accident while preparing for the WGC-Workday Championship in Bradenton, Florida.
“I’m sick to my stomach. You know, it hurts to see one of yours – now one of my closest friends have an accident,” Thomas said. “Man, I just hope he’s okay. Worried about his kids, you know. I’m sure they’re suffering.”
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan issued a statement wishing Woods the best.

Woods, an 82-time PGA Tour winner, overcame several injuries to return to golf in 2018, as well as a fight with prescription painkillers that led to a DUI arrest in 2017 and his subsequent parole. Woods was found several miles from home in South Florida in May this year, about five weeks after spinal fusion surgery was performed to relieve the constant nerve pain in his lower back. The surgery fused an area of his spine and Woods, after six months without being able to move a stick, was able to hit balls again.
He returned and played a full schedule in 2018, winning the Tour Championship for his 80th victory and in April 2019, he won the Masters for his 15th major title and fifth victory at Augusta National. Later that year, he won the Zozo Championship for his 82nd success on the PGA Tour, tying Sam Snead’s record.
Ranked 50th in the world, Woods had a disappointing 2020 season as he played only nine times around the pandemic, his best result being a tie for ninth place in January. The last time he officially competed was at the November Masters, where he tied for 38th place. He also played in an exhibition, the PNC Championship, with his 11-year-old son Charlie in December, a few days earlier. of his last back procedure.
