Tinder CEO Jim Lanzone will be the new head of Yahoo, according to a note from the company obtained by CNBC on Friday.
You can read the full note from former Yahoo Chief Guru Gowrappan announcing the change below. Gowrappan said he will now serve as an advisor to Yahoo.
CNBC reported last month that Gowrappan was unsure of his future employment situation, as private equity firm Apollo closed its Yahoo transaction, formerly known as Verizon Media, on Sept. 1. . The CEO exchange comes just eight days after Apollo took control of Yahoo.
Tinder announced Friday that it has hired Renate Nyborg as the new CEO.
Here’s Gowrappan’s note to Yahoo staff:
Team –
We have entered a new chapter in our history and I am tremendously proud of everything we have done together over the last three years. Like the beginning of any subsequent chapter, this is a natural moment of transition. I have made the decision to take on a new role as Apollo’s senior advisor.
This role will allow me to support our next phase of continued growth and investment in the company. As such, I am delighted to welcome Jim Lanzone as Yahoo’s new CEO as of September 27, 2021.
