A lot of people have started playing Loop Hero. How do I know? He hit 50,000 simultaneous users on Steam the weekend. I was one of them. I’ve now spent over 25 hours on the roof construction roguelita and I have some tips for everyone else just starting out.
At its most basic level, Loop Hero he plays himself. Your warrior walks around a circle automatically fighting hordes of slimes and vampires. Over time they become stronger and, if they become strong enough, they will survive to summon the boss, defeat them, and advance to the next chapter. Of course, the devil is in the details of everything you can do besides this simple deception, including team upgrades, building settlements, and choosing how to play the cards you collect throughout each expedition. Here are some helpful tips I’ve come up with based on my own experience navigating this complex glove.
Prioritize certain statistics for each class.
The gentleman is closed and plays slowly. The bastard is more vulnerable but carries two weapons. The Necromancer summons skeletons to fight alongside him. Each requires a different strategy. I’ve found that focusing on these specific statistics for each class has led more to greater success and a longer life:
- Knight: Regen / Vampirism
- Snape: Evasion / Crit Chance
- Necromancer: HP Magic / Extra Skeletons
Survival is the name of the game, which means balancing the speed with which you can kill enemies with the speed with which you heal. Regen is nice because it works even when you’re not in battle, while Magic HP is the damage the Necromancer can absorb every battle before it hurts you.
High-level equipment is not always better.
The whole team Loop Hero it has one level and one of four rarities: common, blue, yellow, and orange. The greater the rarity, the more bonus stats are presented. However, you only have to raise the numbers. You may get a piece of armor that is two levels above the current one, but that is the lowest rarity and therefore does not include any bonuses. In this case, something like 10% vampirism is better than an additional 100 hp.
G / O Media may receive a commission
The opposite may also be true, depending on the situation. On one expedition I got a top level common ring with a regeneration statistic of 4.5. I quickly swapped it for single-digit buffs from my existing orange rarity ring. Also, all armor you don’t use eventually splits into resources, so think about waiting instead of constantly switching to new equipment with only marginally better stats.
Don’t just place land voluntarily or willingly.
Mountain cards give you more HP and a total of an additional 120 HP if distributed in a 3X3 grid. Meadows provide you with an additional resource when placed next to a mountain or set of rocks, making it more advantageous to mix them instead of placing them somewhere separate from the map. The additional effects of rivers double when they touch another land in two places, so be sure to arrange them in a zigzag pattern instead of straight lines.
It’s okay not to play all the cards.
Like the additional material, letters you do not use will be divided into additional resources that can be used to expand and update your settlement. So don’t feel like you have to play everything that revolves around you, especially if you’re on an expedition to look for resources. In addition, the key to success in Loop Hero balances the need to cultivate enemies for better resources and equipment with being able to survive until the end of the game. A couple of vampire mansions is good. Throwing the map with them is not.
Know when to fold them.
If you don’t think you’ll survive another loop, retreat to your village when you pass by. You will be able to save everything you have collected that expedition. There is a significant amount of grinding Loop Hero, which means you probably make some expeditions to the farm to get certain resources to get key upgrades and unlock important cards without ever intending to take on the chapter head. Better to restart an expedition than to lose a large chunk in a premature death. If an impulse occurs, you can also withdraw a smaller penalty from any other box on the map when you are not in battle.
The telltale signs that you will need to withdraw are when the loop has multiple squares with large groups or enemies, and if you haven’t gotten good material updates in a while. Enemies become tougher each complete loop, and if the RNG, that Loop Hero you have a lot of things, it just doesn’t go your way, it’s best to quit while you’re on.
Update the casting.
Your settlement in Loop Hero it’s basically your skill tree. Updates will last between shipments and will often be the determining factor in surviving or not. Try to unlock the Smelter as soon as possible and then upgrade it to get the arsenal. When placed, it allows you to equip an additional piece of gear in a new slot that will give you another chance to increase the most important stats in your class.
Unlock watchtowers.
Watchtowers take a little longer, but they are also very useful for agricultural resources. They provide archers in your settlement who can attack enemies from the surrounding squares depending on how much is upgraded. This encourages you to play as many monster cards as close to your settlement as possible to take on essentially the toughest fights in your backup loop..
Get the Blade of Dawn shot.
Each time your character climbs in a loop, they select one of three new traits to help them during the duration of the expedition. The Knight has a lot of good ones to choose from, but Blade of Dawn has never disappointed me. It makes the first attack of each new day super charged, causing double damage to all enemies in an encounter. The days pass quickly out of battle, and if you have placed enemy buildings in moderation and intelligence, you can start almost all the great battles this way.
For the rascal I always go with the Pet shot of the Forest Boy who has a 75% chance of generating a lousy werewolf every fight, and for the Necromancer I really like Unseen Care, which offers you a permanent bonus of Magic HP for each skeleton summoned. I usually try to follow any features that are triggered often or provide some lasting benefit that scales well as the loop gets harder.
Use a storm temple to burn a forest.
Loop Hero it is full of mysterious synergies between different buildings and types of terrain. One of them is the burned forest, which is obtained when you place a storm temple and lightning strikes a forest or pond. The burned forest grants additional magical damage, ignoring the defenses of enemies. Another good combination is Hungry Grove, created when two blood groves are placed next to a normal grove. From time to time it will attack you when you fight enemies next to it, but it will also instantly kill any enemy that falls below 20% health, which will help you take down large groups much faster.
Experiment with different combinations.
Different cards produce different effects and allow you to get different resources. If you always play in the same class doing similar loop configurations, you won’t get the full range of resources needed to quickly expand your settlement, which is the real point of 90% of the expeditions you make. Play with different types of lands, enemy buildings and locations on the map to see what happens.
Similarly, different classes are better suited to different types of loops. The Necromancer will do better against larger mafias, while the rogue can make massive critical hits that defeat mission enemies (the ones they generate by visiting villages) much faster.
Use Oblivion to arm enemy camps.
I’ve died for goblins more times than I can count. They sting hard and quickly, and often appear in groups of three or four. The Oblivion card allows you to get any box on the map, not just the things you created. You can use it to wipe out a multitude of goblins, or better yet, to destroy the camp that generates them. The same goes for bandit camps and other enemy generation sites that automatically appear as you advance.
Extra credit: You can also use an Oblivion card to destroy the last mountain or rock formation in a 3X3 mountain range. You can then replace the mountain or rock to reactivate the formation and get additional resources. You can rinse and repeat as many times as you want.
