After this year, players who adhere to the fifth-year options will be protected from the free versions. But the Titans will seize this opportunity in their final year. They are ready to release the old selection of the first round Loved ‘Jackson.
The Titans are cutting both Jackson and the right exit Dennis Kelly, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com tweets. Jackson’s options season was expected to cost the Titans $ 10.2 million. They will turn all that amount into maximum space, a luxury that will not be available to teams from next year.
However, this is not a surprise. Jackson played just three games last season; a knee injury cost the first round of 2017 most of his season. The Titans left Jackson on IR before Week 1 and, although they activated him from the injured list in early November, Jackson continued to waste time. He will join the free agency at a bad time, coming out of his worst season and doing so after the salary cap fell to $ 16 million. However, there are some figures of interest for Jackson. It was ranked as the 8th overall corner of Pro Football Focus in 2019 and landed in the top 40 corners of the advanced metrics spot on the 17th and 18th.
Tennessee will present a new group of corners next year. The Titans have now cut Jackson and Malcolm Butler. They will also have a proper new attack.
After the Titans passed Jack Conklinthe fifth year option, they drafted Isaiah Wilson in the first round of 2020. After a disastrous debut year, Wilson is now with the Dolphins. Over the past season, the Titans used Kelly on the right tip, which lifted him from the swing role he previously held. Kelly’s most recent extension spanned the 2022 season.
Overall, the Titans will create more than $ 17 million in maximum space by making these moves. That will put the team’s total at nearly $ 30 million, for OverTheCap. They will also need to replace two key gears.
