Jets coach Adam Gase said Wednesday that the Jets’ property did not tell him he will be fired after Sunday’s season finale against the Patriots.
On Tuesday there was a WFAN report that said the Jets’ owner told Gase he would be fired.
“That was news to me,” Gase said. “No one told me.”
Although Gase has not been informed of the decision, the hope is that Jets CEO and President Christopher Johnson will fire Gase after the game against the Patriots. Gase is 9-22 in two years as the team’s coach.
Gase said he does not focus on his employment situation.
“I probably learned when I was 22, Nick Saban told me he would do his job until someone told you differently,” Gase said. “I will focus on that. My job is to prepare to go this Sunday and try to win a game.
The Jets have won two games in a row after a 0-13 start. The Jets’ offense has been terrible under Gase, whose background is on the offensive side of the ball. Gase was asked if he worries that his reputation as an offensive coach has been successful with the Jets having committed the 32nd foul in the NFL for the second straight season.
“I don’t know if the word is really the right word,” Gase said. “It’s just … I mean it makes me angry. If there’s one side of the ball I want to make sure it’s right, it’s this one. It hasn’t happened, and that’s for me.”
