TAMPA, Florida – In his first interview since the memorable launch of the Lombardi Trophy at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl Boat Parade last month, quarterback Tom Brady said on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” that ” he doesn’t remember “as well” as everyone who witnessed the viral video.
Candidate Brady also indicated that he was not worried about the possible consequences of losing the NFL’s most coveted trophy in the waters of the Hillsborough River, which flows through downtown Tampa and into Tampa Bay.
“At first, I didn’t think at the time. It wasn’t a thought. It was, ‘It sounds like a lot of fun to do,'” Brady laughed during Tuesday night’s show. “Not to mention, when you put one of the trophies at the bottom, there are a lot of very sharp edges … I found out later, if it had been an incomplete pass, that it would have gone down like 80 feet I’m so glad that [tight end] Cam [Brate caught it]. “
Team sources told ESPN that if the trick had been twisted, the Bucs would have ordered a replacement.
Brady also revealed that, like so many others, he feels that his daughter, Vivi, could have been the best part of the music video. Just before Brady lifted the trophy from his yacht to an adjacent boat, he was heard shouting, “Dad, no!”
“This is my little eight-year-old daughter,” Brady said. “Who could have imagined that an eight-year-old girl would make the most sense of anyone in this whole area? I mean, she’s the voice of reason. Go figure.”
Brady was also asked if it was the sea legs or too much avocado tequila that made him tremble as he got off the boat, turning it into an instant meme that has since been found on T-shirts.
“A little bit of both,” he told Corden. “It was definitely a moment of celebration. I’m glad I’m on the ground at that moment. Absolutely.
“I’m glad I’m surrounded by my teammate quarterback Griff [Ryan Griffin] in the right place and at the right time. Who could have a better friend than that? Make sure I was so comfortable walking like that off the boat. “
At the end of the interview, Corden asked Brady, 43, who is a year older than Corden, if he could possibly join the NFL.
“Being completely honest, you don’t stand a chance. Zero,” Brady said. “I think you have so much talent. I mean, you can’t be great at everything.”
Corden then replied, “Okay, maybe I won’t do Tampa, but could I play with the Jets?”
Brady replied, “Maybe you can play for the Jets. You’re right about that.”
