We all know the story of Tom Brady: overlooked in the 2000 NFL draft coming out of the University of Michigan, going into the sixth round and picking the number 199. Twenty-one years and seven Super Bowl rings then he still remembers where he came from.
Bleacher Report unearthed a video of Brady interviewed by NFL Films in 2002, after winning his first Super Bowl with the Patriots. Steve Sabol read his draft report, which seems a bit silly a posteriori.
“Tom Brady: Poor construction, which can be accurate, thin, lacks great physical stature and strength, and is easily knocked down,” the report said.
“Wow. That wakes me up, ”Brady said at the time.
Sunday night, Brady tweeted the video, saying, “It still makes me shoot.”
Brady won his seventh Super Bowl title this year at the age of 43 with the Buccaneers, earning MVP honors in the process. He has stated that he plans to play until he is at least 45 years old and that “physical size” doesn’t seem like a problem as he continues to fight Father Time.
“When people tell you, come on, you can’t do this, you can’t do that and you keep overcoming it, you believe this confidence in yourself and this belief in yourself that even when no one else believes in you, I still do it. I will, because I do not give anything like what you say, “Brady said in the 2002 video.
An appointment that would still apply today, nineteen years later.
