Almost everyone seems to be moving to Florida, including Tommy Hilfiger, who left his $ 45 million mansion in Greenwich for warmer pastures.
The 69-year-old American clothing mogul and his wife, former model Dee Ocleppo, 54, have finally closed the sale, caused exclusively by The Post in November, of his 13,344-square-foot mansion. . The 22-acre estate at 30 John Street, which they have owned since 2010, has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and three laundries.
“The house doesn’t feel very big because it’s cozy and warm. They used almost every room. Welcome, ”real estate agent Janet Milligan to Sotheby’s International Realty Greenwich Brokerage told The Post.
The house has hand-painted fabric walls, carved mills, wide board and limestone floors, textile wall coverings, a cellar and a tasting room. An 18th-century French fireplace sits between six fireplaces and the master bedroom has two bathrooms, two dressing rooms and an office, according to Realtor.com.
The entrance has a carved wooden staircase. The formal dining room has wood paneling and the spacious kitchen with exposed wooden beams and a breakfast room, in addition to the house with a home cinema.
“[Ocleppo] it has a Turkish heritage, so the Turkish-inspired decor is really special. It made the theater a very nice and cozy room where you just want to watch movies all day. It has a candy machine, popcorn, sofas and different levels of chairs, ”Milligan said.
Outdoors, the house has fountains, a koi pond, a swimming pool, an all-weather tennis court, a rose garden, a boxwood knot garden, a topiary garden and a lawn overlooking Long Island Sound. According to Realtor.com, the house has a four-car garage plus a two-bedroom hostel with its own two-vehicle garage. They even had a greenhouse, which once housed orchids, and a chicken coop with three roosters and at least a dozen chickens, Milligan told The Post.
“As you get closer, you go up a mound and you don’t see the house. As you drive down the road, it climbs up like a pearl, ”said Milligan. “It’s the highest point in Greenwich, and on a clear day, you can see New York City.”
This is the eighth house the couple has renovated and sold in the last 35 years. In 2010 they bought the house for $ 31.37 million and reportedly invested millions in renovating the house, including replacing the terracotta roof tiles with exact replicas of the custom-made originals. According to Town & Country, they hired Andre Tchelistcheff Architects, as well as interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard and Cindy Rinfret of Rinfret, Ltd.
“Originally there was an indoor pool and they turned it into the most spectacular family room. You never knew it wasn’t there before, it was doing so well, ”said Milligan, who added that the new family room has French doors, a wet bar, a seating area, a TV and a pool table.
His Greenwich home was built in 1939 and was designed by Greville Rickard for real estate investor Charles Vincent Paterno. The house was later owned by art collector Joseph Hirshhorn, whose collection is now in the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC, according to Realtor.com.
Sally Slater of Douglas Elliman represented anonymous buyers who bought the property through an LLC.
“They are not showy people. They are just looking to start their lives in Greenwich instead of where they were, ”Slater told the Real Deal.
Hilfiger and Ocleppo will move to Palm Beach, Florida, for favorable tax policies and other unnamed reasons; the couple sells their Miami home and is looking to buy a new home in Florida, they told the Wall Street Journal in September. Hilfiger also sold its Plaza Hotel penthouse in 2019 for $ 33.25 million and a Palm Beach mansion for $ 35 million in 2017.
