Tony DeAngelo has played his last game with the Rangers, general manager Jeff Gorton told reporters on Monday.
DeAngelo, the offensively gifted but very calm defender, ruled out resignations on Monday after being appointed after a postgame clash with goalkeeper Alexandar Georgiev following the loss of overtime on Saturday to the Penguins.
The Rangers assigned DeAngelo to their taxi crew and are expected to try to change the 25-year-old.
A selection from the first round of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014, DeAngelo’s production, which included an impressive 53 points in 68 games last season, has secured a steady secondary place in the eye-catching negative taunts.
DeAngelo has been suspended several times throughout his hockey career.
He signed a two-year, $ 9.6 million overtime last season with the Rangers, his third team since being selected.
