AUGUSTA, Georgia – Tony Finau surprised during Saturday’s long delay in the third round of the Masters Tournament.
While Finau waited for the rain to stop, he spent time at the Augusta National Golf Club caddy house. Jimmy Dunne, a member of the club, handed the mobile phone to Finau.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, was on FaceTime by phone.
“It was a nice surprise,” Finau said. “He said, ‘Playing really well,’ and he kept going. He was surprised we stopped. He told the NFL it’s not raining don’t stop. he said, “No, that’s not the case.” We laughed a lot at that. “
Finau said he had met Brady once before in 2017, when Brady was still playing for the New England Patriots. Finau said he grew up a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, but now applauds mostly NFL individual players.
Finau did not say if Brady gave him a talk during the weather delay, which lasted more than an hour.
He shot 1-on-73 in the third round and is eight shots from leader Hideki Matsuyama who would enter on Sunday.
