The secretary of the Department of Finance, Francisco Parés Alicea, provided this afternoon an update on the sending of the stimulus check of $ 600 to Puerto Rican families, of which 200 thousand have already received the deposit .
According to Parés Alicea, about $ 190 million was distributed today on the first day of direct deposits.
Regarding the rest of the people who must receive the benefit, the Assistant Secretary of Internal Revenue of the Treasury, Roxanna Santiago, assured that the distribution plan states that the $ 600-200,000 families will be sent daily.
“Yesterday 200 thousand were sent, today another 200 thousand deposits will be sent and so on the established plan is that in three to four weeks we will reach 2.8 million families,” Santiago said.
For his part, the Secretary of the Treasury explained that the agency has about 30 days to complete the payments to all citizens who so far would have the 2.8 million people mentioned by the Assistant Secretary.
Parés Alicea assured that this was a “historic day for the Department of Finance” for the record time in which payments began to be processed.
He also stated that 95% of the people who requested the payment will receive it directly without having to take any action. He also recalled that to the extent that people received the previous $ 1,200 incentive check, that second payment will come straight.
In the immediate future, the secretary has assured that over the next few days about $ 600 million will be disbursed to about 700,000 families who were randomly selected by the agency’s technical team.
