Following allegations of abuse against Marilyn Manson by ex-fiancée of rocker Evan Rachel Wood and four other women, Nine Inch Nails music partner and former collaborator Trent Reznor has reprimanded Manson his “aversion” to the performer in a new statement. .
As Pitchfork reported, the denunciation of bandleader Nine Inch Nails comes after a story about Reznor from Manson’s 1998 autobiography, The long hard road out of hell, resurfaced after Wood’s accusation on Feb. 1 that Manson prepared and abused her during their relationship. In the book, Manson recounts an incident in the 1990s where he and Reznor allegedly physically and sexually assaulted an intoxicated woman.
On Wednesday (February 3), Reznor refuted the story, apparently his defense was published in response to screenshots of passages from Manson’s autobiography that appeared on social media.
“I’ve been vocal over the years about my aversion to Manson as a person and I cut ties with him almost 25 years ago,” Reznor transmitted. “As I said back then, the passage of Manson’s memoirs is a complete fabrication. I was enraged and offended when he came out and I still am today.”
The story of Reznor and Manson’s alleged debauchery was destined to be published in 1995 Empirical Magazine interview with Manson before being canceled due to objections to the content. Its inclusion in The long hard road out of hell highlighted Manson’s early relationships with Reznor: The Nine Inch Nails’ brains helped produce Marilyn Manson’s first two albums, each released under Reznor’s Nothing Records label.
In 2017, as Consequence of Sound noted at the time, Manson claimed he and Reznor had amended, maintaining that the NIN leader sent him an email saying “something along the lines of:” Even if it bothers me that music is no longer dangerous, it reminds me of how great you and I were, and that time. “
In 2018, Wood testified before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security that he had experienced “toxic mental, physical, and sexual abuse that began slowly but increased over time.” His testimony, in support of the Sexual Assault Survivors Bill of Rights, did not name his alleged assailant. But that changed earlier this week.
“My abuser’s name is Brian Warner,” Wood said Monday via Instagram, “also known around the world as Marilyn Manson. She started preparing me when I was a teenager and abused me horribly for years. brainwashed and manipulated.I just lived in fear of reprisals, slander or blackmail.I am here to expose this dangerous man and call on the many industries that have allowed him before he ruined more lives.I am on the side of the many victims that they can no longer be silent. “
Manson responded shortly afterwards by saying that his life and art “have long been magnets of controversy, but these recent claims about me are terrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been fully consensual with like-minded couples. Regardless of how – and why … others now choose to distort the past, that is the truth “.
Following the allegations, Manson was removed by her record label and talent agency, lost her planned roles on television and had a state senator call for an investigation into her activities. Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit and another of Manson’s former loves, Rose McGowan, shared their support for the alleged victims.
