Trevor Lawrence heads head to head as Jacksonville Jaguars starting QB for Week 1 against Houston Texans

Trevor Lawrence’s No. 1 pick will start quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 against the Houston Texans, coach Urban Meyer announced.

Meyer had previously said Lawrence was competing with Gardner Minshew for the starting spot.

Lawrence has completed 20 of his 32 passing attempts in two games this preseason, but the offense has had problems, especially on the offensive line, as Lawrence has been pressured into 37% of his relegations this preseason, according to data from ESPN Stats & Information. He has been fired three times.

Lawrence will also be without one of his expected offensive players this season after his first-round teammate Travis Etienne suffered an injury to Lisfranc in Monday night’s preseason game against the New Orleans Saints and will be lost all season after being placed on the injured reserve.

The last 13 quarterbacks selected in the top flight do not win in their first starts in the NFL. The last quarterback to win his debut after being selected at No. 1 was David Carr, for the Texans in 2002.
