Trevor Lawrence doesn’t look like anyone is plotting a way to avoid coming to the Jets.
Clemson’s quarterback and projected No. 1 appeared Wednesday on “The Dan Patrick Show” and Patrick asked him directly about the Jets. At 0-13, the Jets are in a position to get the No. 1 pick and a shot against Lawrence. The Jets look like they will finish 0-16, which would guarantee the best draft position.
It has been speculated that Lawrence could return to Clemson for his senior season or say he will not come to the Jets and try to force a trade, as Eli Manning did in 2004.
Patrick asked Lawrence if he felt ready to join a team like the Jets.
“I think I’m ready,” Lawrence said. “I think just being here in Clemson, my trip has taught me a lot. I’ve grown a lot in recent years. I’m really ready to take on any challenge and I just have that opportunity. “
Patrick then asked if Lawrence had seen the Jets.
“It simply came to our notice then. I’ve seen some highlights and things, ”he said.
After Patrick jokingly told him not to watch the Jets, Lawrence explained that he embraces a challenge.
“Honestly, I know some of the things I say seem topical, but just to have a chance to go somewhere, help someone rebuild whether that’s what it is or what it is and just win,” he said. Lawrence. “This is something I love to do. I think that’s what makes me win the best, regardless of the stats, whatever it is. This is what I love. Just to have this opportunity, it’s clear that in some places it will be more of a challenge than others, but I think I’m ready. This will come when you are here. Now I’m trying to focus on being great where I am.
Lawrence recently participated in Clemson’s Senior Day activities, fueling the belief that he would enter the NFL draft once the season was over. Patrick asked Lawrence if he was definitely getting into the project.
“I mean it’s likely,” Lawrence said. “I don’t want to close any doors completely.”
