Tribute to health professionals killed by COVID-19

To the sound of the song “Borikén”, performed by the Puerto Rican composer Hermes Croatto, The College of Medical Surgeons today paid an emotional tribute to health professionals killed by COVID-19 in Puerto Rico on Tuesday.

Next to the designated Secretary of Health, Carlos Mellado, The President of the College, Victor Ramos, Explained that the tribute is made in connection with the event held this afternoon by the President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, to the victims of this virus which, to date, has collected more than 400,000 dead in this country.

“We lit the building from‘ amber ’, which is the color the president chose for the COVID memorial,” Ramos expressed before Croatto’s presentation began.

During his performance, the artist was accompanied by a six-minute video behind which images of health professionals killed by the virus were shown.

The sequence included Abelardo Vargas, Benjamin Rodriguez Cotto, Raul Rubio Burgos, Miracles Saints Knoll, Carlos Garcia Goyco, Victor Jesus Diaz, Sara Garcia, Nancy Baez, Dayna M. Marrero and Edith Marrero, victims of the coronavirus.

The event was held at the headquarters of the College in Río Pedres, in the space enabled to work the logistics of distribution of the vaccine of the VOCID-19.

For his part, Mellado took the opportunity to thank Ramos and the College for such efforts in distribution.

The least we could do is pay tribute to him and be able to say that we will continue to work and fight so that this tribute does not become more people who die“, He expressed during his speech at the tribute.

This morning, Health reported about 365 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Puerto Rico, but reported no additional deaths.
