Officials from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Pentagon on Wednesday hold a joint session on the Trump administration’s Covid-19 vaccine program, Operation Warp Speed, as Americans begin receiving shots from Pfizer.
The briefing comes a day before the FDA’s Vaccine and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee votes on whether Moderna’s vaccine is recommended for emergency use. A favorable vote by the committee will likely pave the way for Moderna’s vaccine and become the second approved for use in the U.S. behind Pfizer.
U.S. officials have said they expect to distribute about 40 million doses of vaccine by the end of this year, enough to inoculate about 20 million people, as Moderna and Pfizer vaccines require two weeks apart.
