Trump and the Republican Party have been outspoken in recent weeks over Biden’s handling of border growth, blaming his backlash on Trump’s policies as the reason for the increase.
Biden addressed criticism on Thursday, saying he does not apologize for backing Trump’s policies, particularly the “Stay in Mexico” policy.
“I don’t apologize for that,” he said. “I don’t apologize for ending programs that didn’t exist before Trump was president that would have an incredibly negative impact on law, international law, and human dignity. I don’t apologize for that.”
Comments come as the Biden administration faces an increase in migrants on the southern border. The administration has opened nearly six new facilities over the past two months to deal with the influx.
