Miller’s campaign and Trump’s endorsement underscore the electoral danger that lawmakers could face by past voting or by any perception of disloyalty to the former president, which according to polls remains popular within the Republican Party.

Gonzalez is the first Republican to oppose Trump since he left office, though he has threatened to support the main challengers of other Republicans who voted for his removal or criticized him while in office.
