Former Trump has chosen Jesse Binnall, a Republican lawyer who filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the 2020 election results in Nevada, to represent him in a lawsuit alleging he violated the Ku Klux Klan law of 1871 inciting the January 6 revolt at the Capitol.
Mississippi Democratic Congressman Bennie Thompson and the NAACP filed a lawsuit in February against Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and the Oath Keepers militia, alleging that they “conspired to incite a crowd gathered” in Washington, DC, to attack the Capitol on January 6 and interrupt the counting of electoral votes.
Judicial documents filed Thursday in the lawsuit show that Jesse Binnall will represent Trump in the lawsuit.
Binnall represented former Trump national security adviser Mike Flynn alongside Sidney Powell in his criminal trial for lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia’s ambassador to the United States Flynn.
More recently, Binnall was involved in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election with a lawsuit against election officials in Nevada. He testified before the Senate National Security Committee in December and said 42,000 people voted more than once during the 2020 Nevada election, a claim since it was denied by fact-checkers.
Binnall also represents Defending the Republic, a legal organization founded by Sidney Powell to pursue lawsuits seeking to overturn election results, in a $ 1.3 billion lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems against Powell and the legal group. .
On Twitter, Binnall is a conservative vocalist and member of the faithful MAGA. On Jan. 6, when Congress counted President Joe Biden’s election victory, Binnall echoed Trump’s contempt for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, whom the former president considered unfair for his refusal to prevent certification of Biden’s victory.
“He will be the leader of the minority because he is a coward and turns a blind eye to electoral fraud. Any senator who continues to support his leadership should be ousted, ”Binnall said he tweeted.
