Trump White House associate linked to Proud Boys before riots via cell phone data

A person associated with Trump’s White House contacted a member of the Proud Boys in the days leading up to the Jan. 6 uprising, the New York Times reports.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) used location, cell phone, and call log data to establish the connection between the unnamed person and the far-right group.

The Times also noted that none of the phone data showed any connection between riots and members of Congress on Jan. 6. The names of the parties involved in the phone call between the White House associate and the Proud Boys were not disclosed and the FBI does not know exactly what was discussed during the phone call, according to The Times.

Following the January 6 Capitol riot, Stone was again the subject of an investigation by the Justice Department and the FBI.

Stone has previously stated that he did not participate in the insurgency, despite being in Washington, DC that day.

“I had no prior knowledge of the riot at the Capitol,” he told ABC last month.

Stone has admitted in the past to having ties to the group’s leader, Enrique Tarrio, who was accused of his connection to the riot.

The FBI did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
