The trial for the removal of former President Donald Trump will stop if he arrives on Saturday, to meet the request of one of his lawyers, who is an observant Jew.
Trump’s attorney general, David Schoen, called for the trial, which begins Tuesday, to be held on temporary suspension from sunset Friday through Saturday.
“I apologize for the inconvenience I have requested that no dismissal proceedings be conducted during Jewish Saturday will no doubt cause other people involved in the proceedings,” Schoen wrote in a letter to Senate leaders last week. .
“Even so, practices and prohibitions are mandatory for me; so, respectfully, I have no choice but to make that request. “
Majority leader Chuck Schumer said Sunday that the Senate would accept Schoen’s request.
“We respect your request and, of course, we will accept it. Talks with relevant parties on the structure of the trial continue, “Schumer spokesman Angelo Roefaro said.
