A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook the Pacific Islands today, specifically in the Loyalty Islands province.
At the moment there are no reports of damage or casualties, but a tsunami alert was issued throughout the area.
Initially it had been reported that the magnitude of the event had been 7.9, but it had already been revised.
The epicenter occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The situation is currently being assessed to determine if any alerts are being issued for the west coast of the United States.
