Critics swindle Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) for handling a winter storm that ravaged the state this week, turning off power and heat to millions for more than three days and counting for once of cold.
In a statement Tuesday, Abbott blamed the Texas Electrical Reliability Council for not being properly prepared for the storm and promised reform.
“The Texas Electrical Reliability Council has been anything but reliable for the last 48 hours,” Abbott said. “There are too many jeans without electricity and heat for their homes, as our state faces freezing temperatures and severe winter weather. This is unacceptable.”
But it was Abbott’s comments during a Fox News interview earlier this week that angered the governor’s harshest critics.
“This shows how the Green New Deal would be a deadly deal for the United States of America,” Abbott said as he appeared on Sean HannitySean Patrick Hannity: Trump’s mother as the Senate debates her role in inciting Capitol people Laura Ingraham snatches Trump’s dismissal lawyer: “It was terrible,” Trump’s lawyer says. will do better “after criticism from GOP MOREof the program. “It just shows that fossil fuels are needed for the state of Texas and other states to ensure we can heat our homes in the winter and cool them in the summer.”

Other critics offered similar views on Abbott’s stance on energy infrastructure during the state crisis.

I’m sorry, but this is totally psychotic. There is an emergency in Texas * right now * and he is facing the Green New Deal with complete lies about the source of the problem. https://t.co/PNzzr6juAR

State leaders fail to say they don’t see this. Energy experts and State House Dems, among others, warned for years. Abbott chose to ignore facts, science and difficult decisions and now the Texans will pay the price again. 4/4

Former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke said Tuesday night that the Lone Star state bordered on a “failed state” under Abbott’s leadership and dropped the Republican to focus too much. in cultural matters.
“The energy capital of North America cannot provide enough energy to heat and power people’s homes,” O’Rourke said. “We are approaching a failed state in Texas. And it has nothing to do with God or natural disasters. It has everything to do with those who have positions of public trust that have failed us.”
With millions of people still without electricity, and looking to lure vulnerable residents to heating centers or find running water, Texas utility Austin Energy said Wednesday that some customers could run out of electricity until a week.
