The race is a fun thing.

We all know that this is a social construction, although we continue to adhere to the principles established by our ancestors, which seem similar to this: if you ever see two black men carrying a TV, even if they carry the TV inside a store to return it, they are likely to steal it and have to be treated like thieves.

Presumably.

Well Walmart has some explanations to make and, to explain it, I want to say that two black men have filed a lawsuit against the company …which seems to have a return policy that includes TVs …claiming they were handcuffed and accused of stealing the television they were trying to return.

From Business Insider:

Plaintiffs Dennis Stewart, a former police officer, and Terence Richardson, a pastor, were handcuffed by police at a Walmart in the suburb of Conroe, Texas, Houston, after trying to return a $ 300 TV last September, according to the demand. Stewart bought the TV earlier in the day, but said it was not working properly and therefore wanted to return it, according to demand.

The two men said that when they went back to the TV, a white customer at the customer service desk accused them of stealing it and refused to confirm receipt as proof of purchase.

They said the associate called police. The lawsuit said police arrived, handcuffed them and took them to the leak prevention office, where Stewart was said to have broken down in tears.

Police released the men, but Walmart has not yet killed them. According to reports, a store manager asked the men, a pastor and a former police officer (just want to make sure he knows, dear reader), to sign a document stating that they would be arrested if ever they were returning to the store.

Side note: I will sign the diary, happily. Because, if this story is verified, I should be arrested if I buy at Walmart.

The men claim a Walmart associate shouted at them, “Grab that shitty receipt, grab this fucking TV, take the shit out of this store and never come back.”

For those who don’t tolerate reading damn words, let me translate for you: “Legally take your proof of purchase and the item you bought and leave the store, despite your efforts to return the item that the our policy allows you to return. Buy at Target! “

Presumably.

The lawsuit states that men are now “regularly tormented and awakened from their sleep with nightmares about what they experienced at Walmart.”

Before I smiled, I was never accused of stealing anything at Walmart and having regular nightmares about this place.

“This treatment hurts so much that it’s impossible to describe,” he said, according to Business Insider. “It’s like a cancer that eats them every moment of the day, which causes them to avoid people who think they may be inclined to act the same way.”

The pastor and former police officer accuse Walmart of racial discrimination, false arrest and imprisonment and breach of contract.

They claim they were “dehumanized” and made to look like criminals when they are pastors and former police officers. I can’t mention it enough because you couldn’t have asked for two more prominent members of the community to return television. This is like having LeVar Burton and his father Family matters handcuffed to steal.

Presumably.

Business Insider notes that this is not the first time Walmart has faced “a lawsuit of racial discrimination.”

“In 2018, a black customer sued the company alleging that it was intentionally closing cheap beauty products for black people. Retailers often place products at a higher price in display cases to protect them from theft. ”.

Walmart told Insider that it “did not tolerate any kind of discrimination.” He later said he would stop putting these products behind display cases.

Presumably.
