Two COVID-related deaths in the county were reported this week

Two COVID-related deaths were reported last week in Effingham County.

The Effingham County Department of Health reports that the deaths were those of a 60-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man. This brings the number of confirmed COVID-related deaths in Effingham County to 77.

Last week there were 127 new positive COVID cases in Effingham County and 110 of those under 60 years of age.

Starting Monday, Aug. 30, the health department will begin reporting cases twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.

The Department of Health will hold third-dose clinics for those who are ONLY immunocompromised. The clinics will take place on Tuesday, August 31st.

There will be a third Modern Clinic with a dose of 9 to 11 hours. The clinic is for those who are immunocompromised and 18 years of age or older. There will be a third Pfizer clinic from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. for those who are immunocompromised and 12 years of age or older.

All third doses should be the same vaccine as the first two doses and should also be at least 28 days after the second dose.

For these two clinics only, appointments should be made by phone. Call the Effingham County Health Department at 217-342-9237 to schedule an appointment. J&J catches are NOT included in this.
