The young Puerto Rican Estefania Soto Torres will take to the stage of the Miss Universe pageant a typical dress in tribute to the astrologer Walter Mercat, as presented this morning at the Teatre Tàpia, in Sant Joan.
Made by Joshuan Aponte, the piece in purple and gold, also bears the zodiac signs.
There was no shortage of Mercat’s popular phrase, “Much, much love.”
“In the face of the challenges facing humanity during the COVID-19 pandemic, Walter Mercat’s message of breath and high universal impact is perfect for the Miss Universe stage. Walter was a pioneer of freedom and universal acceptance, and with this typical dress, we embrace her unique sense of style and honor her timeless message, a message that transcended generations, identities, and cultures: togetherness, heart, and a lot, a lot of love, ”Soto expressed in writing.
Aponte, who previously worked on the typical dresses of former queens Madison Anderson and Kiara Liz Ortega, made the dress a one-piece in purple and gold.
Violet is the representative color of mystery, spirituality, wisdom and nobility. Gold means light, creativity, creativity, abundance, wealth and power. The wide sleeves evoke the sumptuousness of Mercat’s unique style, while a wide opening at the skirt highlights the beauty’s legs.
The crown in gold jewelry and precious stones represent the 12 zodiac signs and the stars in the sky. The crown is designed and composed of 78 separate pieces, one for each village on the Island. Also included are the six waning quarter moons that embody the search for the sixth crown.
This morning’s presentation was given by Denise Quiñones, director of the local contest, and Clark Ivor, in charge of the image of the current queen. Also present were Wapa President Jorge Hidalgo; the production director of the same chain, Sonia Valentí, and the mayor of Sant Joan, Miguel Romero.
