Of the 184 “adverse events” in the vaccination of Covid-19 registered in Puerto Rico, the Department of Health refer two cases to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) after people die shortly after receiving one of the doses.
The director of Vaccination Program of the agency, Iris Cardona, Clarified that the two deaths -corresponding to a 77-year-old man and another 79-year-old are under investigation and, at the moment, no conclusive information is available to the effect that the administration of the vaccines has affected the dead.
“To date there is no determination in any of these events that can be said to be a product, which are directly associated with the vaccine. It is being investigated and the final report will come from the CDC and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration)“They are the ones who are carrying out this surveillance,” Cardona said in a press conference.

The last Undersecretary of Health has stressed that the two people were suffering from various comorbid conditions and that, in the case of the 77-year-old man, he was diagnosed with Covid-19 in a post-mortem test.
“The person was vaccinated at a care facility and was ill and the diagnosis on the death certificate is that he died of Covid-19. There is no way the vaccine will cause Covid-19 infection as well. which we assume was that she was already ill. We have to responsibly wait for the report, “Cardona argued.
“He was vaccinated and died within 24 hours, but he had a positive test, a clinical picture and plaques compatible with Covid-19. He had no symptoms (at the time of vaccination),” Cardona said.
According to Cardona, the person suffered from a number of chronic conditions, including type 2 diabetes, polymyalgia, hypertension, pacemakers and cardiovascular.
“They are elderly people who go on vaccination projection (Screening) that is fa had no fever, nothing. I don’t have the absolute details of how they consent to the vaccination, but I had Covid-19, ”the pediatric infectologist added.
The 79-year-old also presented with a diabetic picture, as well as immunosuppression due to “a previous immunodeficiency.”
In the second case, “we have no diagnostic test (of Covid-19), no final diagnosis. He felt bad, got to the hospital and died,” Cardona described.
“There is no cause and effect relationship for the system to tell us that this is so,” the doctor emphasized.
The two deaths under investigation represent 0.0000035% of the 567,813 doses of the vaccine administered in Puerto Rico and registered by the Department of Health, or one in every 300,000 vaccines used.
Cardona explained that, at the time, only 13, or 7% of the 184 adverse events to the vaccine, had been classified as serious. Of the total, 147 were also reported in women, in 80% of cases.
137 of the adverse events, meanwhile, have occurred after the administration of the vaccine Pfizer, While the remaining 37 correspond to the vaccine of Modern.
The adverse event figure represents 0.00033% of the doses administered, or one for every 3,000 vaccines.
According to Cardona, nearly 7 million adverse reactions have been reported worldwide.
