A “new variant” that is spreading very quickly of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes covid-19, has been identified in the United Kingdom, British Health Minister Matt Hancock announced on Monday.
In a statement to the House of Commons (Lower), Hancock said that in recent days British scientists have detected “a new variant of coronavirus that may be associated with the fastest spread in the south of England”.
The minister announced in this same appearance that London, as well as the drivers of Essex (east of England) and Kent (southeast), will move to the maximum level of restrictions, so from Wednesday they should close bars and restaurants save for home delivery.
