The President of the United States, Donald Trump, left a letter to his successor, Joe
Biden, before leaving the White House, an executive spokesman said Wednesday minutes after the president’s departure.

Trump, who refused to accept his defeat for more than two months, never congratulated Biden on his victory in the November election. The letter left in the Oval Office by the outgoing president on entry is an American tradition.

“We are only temporary occupants of this place,” he wrote Barack Obama a
Trump four years ago. “This makes us guardians of democratic institutions and traditions such as the rule of law, the separation of powers, the protection of civil rights for which our ancestors fought,” he added.
