Jorge Colom, One of the cloister representatives who disassociated, explained to Puerto Rico Metro that in this way they are demanding the Governing Board of the institution to revoke this determination which, he said, is illegal in line with the regulations of the UPR.
“We are leaving the meeting in protest of the decision taken by the UPR Governing Board to grant a post of professor Jorge Haddock as a professor because this is an illegal and anti-regulatory act,” Colom explained in a statement. telephone interview.
“The Governing Board does not have the power to grant him any place or any cloistered rank,” he added.
Late last month, the institution’s governing body approved granting Haddock a professorship and blamed it on the contractual liability the two parties had, since when the president was confirmed at the stop in 2018 , a clause stated that he should be rewarded with the place if he remained in the presidential chair for two years or more.

According to Colom, the regulations of the institution state that in order to fill a vacancy, a public call must be opened and the interested parties must apply by means of a letter that includes their curriculum vitae i their credentials, and then the staff committee in the department with the vacancy evaluates the candidates to decide who to recruit.
“All this was ignored on this occasion by the president. The Governing Board took the power that it does not have to skip all the regulatory steps and grant him the place and this is disastrous and discriminatory,” added the professor.
