UPR extends online application date to start studies in August 2021

The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) has extended until February 17 the deadline for new students to apply for admission to begin studies in the next academic year, which begins in August 2021, it reported on Tuesday the president of the university institution, Dr. Jorge Haddock.

To date, the UPR has received 8,643 applications for admission, representing 2,503 applications in addition to those received last year on the same date.

“The last year has been atypical for high school students and their families, as well as for the entire education system. That’s why we extended the admissions process in order to support them and provide more time. so that they can complete the required requirements.Starting university studies at the University of Puerto Rico is the beginning of a great future and we want to ensure that, despite the challenges of this historic moment, they have this great opportunity that will change their lives at a professional, academic and personal level, ”Haddock said.

For her part, the director of the Admissions Office of the UPR, Ivonne Calderón, explained that the application process for admission is a simple and agile, which is done online through the portal upr .edu / admissions /.

“Although the process is virtual, the university has specialized staff to guide and clarify student questions via email and telephone. We want to support them in the application process and ensure that they begin to living the unique experience of studying at the UPR, “said Calderón.

Calderón indicated that the admission criteria “remain the same: the student’s overall average and the result of the university admission test.” However, students may submit their application before receiving the exam results.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of Student Affairs of the UPR, Dr. José Perdomo, urged students to learn about the new academic offer, extracurricular activities and services available through the Admissions portal.

The pandemic of COVID-19 has not been an obstacle to ensuring that university students enjoy the unique and great experience offered by the UPR, so we invite students who are in their last year of high school to complete their admission process at Puerto Rico’s first academic and scientific center, ”the academic recommended.

Currently, the UPR offers its programs through online technologies as a measure to prevent the spread of VOCID-19. From August, classes could be resumed in person in full or in part through a hybrid teaching system. The institution has health and safety protocols, as well as a reopening plan that is updated in accordance with instructions given by the Government of Puerto Rico through executive orders.
