Uries and Pollock set the pattern in SD

SAN DIEGO – AJ Pollock hit a two-run single and deprived Manny Machado of a two-run homer to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers against the battered San Diego Padres, with a 5-2 victory Tuesday. The game opened a series between the two rivals of the National League, who have opposite trajectories.

Will Smith homered for the Dodgers and Julio Uries (14-3) admitted a hit in five blank innings on his return from the injury list. The Mexican equalized the right of Chicago Cubs Kyle Hendricks as pitchers with more wins in the greats.

The Dodgers, who have won 10 of 11, held on for 2 games behind San Francisco, the leader west of the National League.

San Diego has lost 10 of 12 and follows a game behind the Reds in the fight for the second wild card in the league.

Uries, who missed a game due to pain in his left calf, kept the Parents at zero until Eric Hosmer hit a double with an out in the fifth.
