New York.- American prosecutors accusing of drug trafficking to the former Secretary of Public Security of Mexico, Genaro García Moon, They said Monday that they were handing over to the ex-official’s lawyer documents from the Mexican and Panamanian police about him, recordings of calls made from prison and documents from the Mexican government related to a seizure that took place in his country.

The Mexican is charged with three counts of criminal association for cocaine trafficking and of false witnesses.

García Luna, who was Secretary of Public Security from 2006 to 2012 under the government of the former president Felipe Calderón, Has pleaded not guilty to the charges of prosecutors, who allege that he received huge amounts of money from the Joaquin cartel “El Chapo” Guzmán in exchange for allowing him to traffic cocaine in his air.
Monday’s letter from prosecutors in defense of Garcia Luna is in the electronic system of the country’s federal courts and is a public document. Among other evidence in the case, prosecutors also mention that they handed over photographs, videos, parts of a book, photocopies of García Luna’s passport and a letter written by the former official and its English translation.

The U.S. government has produced more than 974,000 documents as evidence against Garcia Luna and intercepted communications.
In 2012 the former official left Mexico and moved to Miami. There he became a permanent resident of the United States and in 2018 applied for US citizenship. He was arrested in 2019 and has since been imprisoned in New York.}
