Washington, United States
The secretary of the United States Department of State, Anthony Blinken, announced on Monday that the government of Joe Biden has appointed Honduran Ricardo Zúñiga as special envoy on migration issues for the countries of the northern triangle.
“Pleased to announce that Ricardo Zúñiga will serve as ours Special Envoy for the Northern Triangle“Leading the State Department’s efforts to improve conditions in Central America,” Blinken said on his Twitter account
He argued that the appointment seeks to encourage more cooperation to implement the regional strategy of the Biden Administration for the management of migration.
Zúñiga, a career diplomat who advised former President Barack Obama, will lead U.S. efforts to curb the flow of undocumented people, and implement the policy announced by Biden of allocating about $ 4 billion to address the root causes of migration to Central America.
“The special envoy will liaise with regional governments on a variety of issues to try to improve conditions in Central America,” he added.
