Utah administers nearly 47,000 COVID-19 vaccines in a single day

The state also reports 444 new cases and nine more deaths.

The Utah Department of Health reported Friday that nearly 47,000 people had received COVID-19 vaccines the day before. And with that, the number of Utahns fully vaccinated against coronavirus is approaching 650,000.

The state also reported 444 new cases of the disease and nine more deaths. Eight of the nine occurred before March 18 and it was only recently confirmed that they had been caused by COVID-19. And, after further testing, the state removed a fatality announced on Feb. 21 after determining it was unrelated to the coronavirus.

Dose of vaccines administered last day / total doses administered • 46,995 / 1,650,850.

Fully vaccinated Utahns • 649,354.

Salt Lake County reported five deaths: a man and two women between the ages of 65 and 84 and a man and a woman over the age of 85.

There were two deaths in Davis County: a man and a woman over 85. Another man over the age of 85 died in Cache County. And Weber County reported the death of a 65- to 84-year-old woman.

Tests reported last day • 5,264 people were tested for the first time. A total of 12,293 people were tested.

Hospitalizations reported last day • 140. This exceeds two from Thursday. Of those currently hospitalized, 55 are in intensive care units, two more than on Thursday.

Percentage of positive tests • According to the original method of the state, the rate is 8.4%. This is above the seven-day average of 7%.

The new state method counts all test results, including repeated tests by the same individual. Friday’s rate was 3.6%, slightly above the seven-day average of 3.4%.

Total so far • 389,353 cases; 2,157 dead; 15,728 hospitalizations; 2,436,569 people tested.
