Utahns hospitalized for COVID-19 fall below 300 as vaccination rates rise

Utah reports 943 new cases and 5 more deaths.

For the first time since late October, the number of Utahns hospitalized for COVID-19 fell below 300, a sign that the pandemic’s grip on health resources may be declining. Utah officials also reported their third consecutive day of dispensing at least 20,000 doses of the vaccine.

Vaccines reported in total / last day vaccinations • 22,473 / 512,189.

Number of Utahns who have received two doses • 153,307.

Cases reported last day • 943.

Deaths reported last day • 5.

  • An Iron County male resident, aged 65 to 84, admitted at the time of death.

  • A man living in Salt Lake County, aged 45 to 64, who was not hospitalized at the time of death.

  • A woman living in Tooele County, aged 65 to 84, was hospitalized at the time of her death.

  • A woman living in Utah County, aged 45 to 64, was hospitalized at the time of her death.

  • A man living in Utah County, over 85, who was not hospitalized at the time of death.

Hospitalizations reported last day • 298. Decreases Friday 14th and first day below 300 since October 26th. Of those currently hospitalized, 116 are in intensive care units, 2 fewer than on Friday.

Tests reported last day • 6,803 people were tested for the first time. A total of 18,233 people were tested on Friday.

Percentage of positive tests • According to the original state method, the rate is 13.9%. This is slightly lower than the seven-day average of 14.4%.

His new method counts all test results, including repeated tests from the same individual. This rate is now at 5.2%, lower than the seven-day average of 6.4%.

Total so far • 360,584 cases; 1,790 dead; 14,151 hospitalizations; 3,584,792 tests.
