In an effort to be fair to a division winner, Pack-12 keeps its highest-ranked and losing team in a difficult situation ahead of the conference championship game.
The conference plans to be as flexible as possible with Washington – there is no definite deadline to cancel it – as the Huskies will decide whether to play Friday night, according to a Pack-12 source with knowledge of the situation.
This does not mean that UW is dealing with significant COVID-19 issues, but will have to wait until the end of the week to make a decision on its availability.
But it refers to the Huskies Allowed to wait until Thursday, If they wish.
It hangs USC.
The Trojans are forced to prepare for two teams: Washington, who won the North, and Oregon, who finished second and will slide into the championship game if UW fails to play.
The Trojans have to do it in a short week after playing Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the Huskies and the Ducks only had to prepare for one team – the USC – and had to do this since last week as their clash at Eugene was canceled.
Yes, the Ducks are scheduled to play in Colorado this weekend, but if they clash in the championship, evidence indicates they are preparing for the USC.
Colorado game ducks have nothing – they deserve a bowl berth regardless of the outcome.
But the win against USC will bring the second consecutive conference title and one of the six bowls (Fiesta) in the New Year.
In other words, two opponents are ready in a short week for the only losing team in the Pac-12, with no definite deadline for clarity.
Meanwhile, the second-placed team in the North has extra time to prepare and worry about an opponent.
It is incomprehensible that a massive rivalry for the No. 15 Trojans and the conference will put USC in a position to change its opponent a day or two before the game, with no value placed on the regular season and no defense for the postseason.
Washington have every right to play Friday night, but that would not be fair to the Pac-12 Huskies at full cost to USC, which will be the only Pac-12 ranking team when the new CFP rankings are released on Tuesday.
No other conference does that.
How do we know?
Because no other conference has done that.
Solution here:
(Rankings were CFP last week. Policy Information Presented by the Associated Press.)
– In the Big Ten, if No. 4 Ohio State or 14th Northwest is forced to cancel, the match will not be declared a match and the teams will be declared co-champions.
In other words, the conference will not change the northwest at the last minute and will not affect OSU’s playoff effort.
– At SEC, if No. 1 Alabama or No. 6 Florida are forced to cancel, the team will be declared co-champions as there is no match.
– In the ACC, if No. 2 Notre Dame or No. 3 Clemson is forced to cancel, the game will be declared no match.
The Irish will be crowned champions on the basis of winning the division-less regular season, but none of the team’s post-season status will be affected.
– At the U.S. Athletics Conference, if No. 8 is forced to cancel Cincinnati or the 24th Tulsa, the game will not be declared competitive, and the top-ranked team will be declared the champion for six purposes in the New Year.
– Big 12 only plans to plow regardless of a title game: If No. 7 is forced to cancel Iowa State or 11th Oklahoma, a healthy team will play in 20th Texas.
However, the conference division did not use design, as its regular season champion, Iowa State, Didn’t play last week.
Hurricanes prepare for the title game for two weeks, find out what the opponent’s shots are.
Pack-12 is the only conference that has put its best team in a competitive predicament.
It does not recognize that trying to be fair to one section winner is too unfair to another.
It does not assign value to the integrity of the regular season.
Rather than being a category winner, the conference’s second place Oregon offers an easier path to the topic – from a product standpoint.
This does not acknowledge that the championship game is not really a championship game if you are using a non-Perth earning alternative team.
The integrity of the division-winner design is broken and the second-placed team is like an AAU match.
This is unfair to USC, which is already facing a logistics hurdle with its short production time.
If the Huskies can’t play, the Pack-12 will not follow the Big Ten and SEC model. This will not cancel the game and declare them co-champions. It needs money.
So there is only one solution.
– Give Washington (3-1) enough time to determine its availability.
– If the UW is canceled Any time this week, And then announce the USC representative on New Year’s Eve regardless of the outcome of the title game.
Some value must be added to what the Trojans (5-0) achieved.
They can’t be considered like the second-placed team that clashed in the game at the last minute.
– If the Trojans beat Oregon (3-2), they are the only champions.
– If the Ducks win, the USC and Oregon are co-champions.

Two days ago, the hotline outlined the challenges facing the convention office due to Washington’s dire situation.
We called for strong, decisive leadership from the convention office if the situation deteriorated.
That’s it, folks.
This is an opportunity led by Commissioner Larry Scott and Head of Football Operations Merton Hanks.
Do not allow the runner-up team to play for the title and then say you cannot get co-champions because this has never been done before.
Don’t worry about setting a precedent with the New Year Six principle – for everyone who knows these rules it only applies the next time college football is played in an epidemic.
Every other conference recognizes this as a year.
Every other conference has adjusted its process.
No other conference has created an unacceptable situation for a division champion.
Evaluate the results in the domain.
It should have been handled last week. But it was not too late.
Be fair to Washington and the USC.
