Two vaccination centers run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency opened Sunday morning in Duval County.
The satellite sites moved from Westside and northwest Jacksonville to the Carver Center on 5th Avenue south of Jacksonville Beach and the Oceanway Center to Sago West Avenue on the north side.
According to FEMA, the sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for 10 days, through March 23. The sites will offer the Pfizer vaccine and up to 500 shots a day can be administered at each site.
Visiting places do not require an appointment and the shots will be administered in order of arrival, first classification.
Kelsy Adams, who works in higher education, waited in her car until the Carver Center site opened. She and a friend traveled about two hours from Gainesville to get vaccinated.

“Everything is full, yes. It’s just … the medical facility and everything, you can’t go in, there are people with higher priority, “said Adams.” So we try [the Jacksonville Beach site]. Nothing more, we go to each one to get some food and drive back. “
An hour before the site opened at the Carver Center, the line began to grow and wrap around the building.
People living on the beaches said it’s about accessibility.
“It simply came to our notice then. We’ve all been waiting a bit, so it’s nice, “said Liz Root, a Jacksonville beach resident.” I still want us to be careful until most of us are vaccinated. I just don’t want it to be free for everyone. ” .
“We need to have it available to everyone so we can do what we need to do again,” said Burl White, a resident of Ponte Vedra Beach.
There was no line at the Oceanway Center site Sunday morning when News4Jax passed by.

The two original satellite sites of the Normandy Community Center and the Hammond Center for the Elderly will return for second-dose shooting.
FEMA opened the two satellite sites in conjunction with the federally-supported vaccination clinic at Gateway Mall in the north. The Norwood Avenue location is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week and can handle 3,000 shots a day. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is offered at the Gateway Mall site, not at the Carver and Oceanway shopping centers.
As of Monday, the age for people who meet the requirements for vaccination drops to 60 in all Florida locations.
