Valencia advances in negotiations with Ajax for Edson Alvarez

MADRID – Valencia have made another attempt to try to close the transfer of Mexican Edson Alvarez, from Ajax, before the winter market closes, different sources have confirmed to ESPN.

Contacts between the Mexican midfielder and Valencia have been satisfactory but they still need to convince Ajax for the operation to succeed.

The Valencians tried to take advantage of the lack of minutes that Edson is having at Ajax to get his transfer for free, but Ajax flatly refused this possibility. Thus, according to ESPN, Valencia is now thinking of offering a financial amount to meet the demands of its coach Javi Gràcia.

The operation will not be easy because Ajax sources consulted by ESPN say that his idea remains to have Edson until the end of the season.

Edson Alvarez would welcome a change of heart after playing only four games as a starter in the Eredivisie during the first part of the season. Sources close to the player tell ESPN that at the age of 23 he needs to play to continue his progression and they think that Valencia could be a good place to do so.

However, the Ché team is in 14th place in the league and needs reinforcements both in midfield and defense after a summer in which he let out several of his stars such as Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin.
