Former Dutch and AC Milan player Marco Van Basten proposes to eliminate the offside in order to have a better show
The former Dutch footballer Marco Van Basten propose that the offside rule be removed as it would be a decision that would benefit football and fans would enjoy better matches.
In statements made a Sky Sports, Van Basten, considered one of the most dangerous strikers in the history of world football, has indicated that the offside has caused much unnecessary controversy so he has insisted on removing the rule to improve the game.
“I still have my doubts with the offside, because I am convinced that is not a good rule. At the very least I would like to do a test to show that football is also possible without the offside. I’m sure it would be better without him. We have a lot to do to improve football, make it more spectacular, interesting and exciting.
“How many times do we talk about decisions regarding offside? Many. If we didn’t have offside, we would have far fewer problems and teams would have other solutions to deliver a good game. Teams would find a way to play without the offside, “he said.
On the other hand, Van Basten pointed out a few days ago in an interview with the Spanish newspaper ‘El País’ that many of the current stars have to play a more important role within the playing field.
“Now, we’re basically talking about coaches, because the ones who are making a difference are the coaches. This is not good. Coaches have become too important. Players need to take on more responsibilities because they are the ones who have the most power to influence. Today if a team plays well or badly we attribute it to the coach. And I really don’t know what the coach’s influence is. Little by little, we have forgotten the true role that players play. Liverpool is Klopp, Madrid is Zidane, City is Guardiola, “he said.
