Vanessa Bryant says Evan Rachel Wood calls her husband Kobe Bryant a “rapist” the day she died is “vile” and “disturbing.”
Hours after Kobe’s death on January 26, 2020, the 33-year-old Westworld actress tweeted: “What has happened is tragic. I am heartbroken by Kobe’s family. He was a sports hero. He was also a rapist. And all these truths can exist simultaneously. ”
Vanessa, 38, posted on Saturday in her Instagram story that the tweet had just attracted her a year later.
“Your fake, insensitive, defamatory and defamatory tweet of 01/26/2020 is vile and disturbing to say the least,” the NBA player’s widow wrote about a screenshot of the original tweet. “Behavior like this is part of the reason why innocent black men go to jail for crimes they did not commit. An accusation does not make anyone guilty.
“YOU DON’T KNOW THE FACTS OF THE CASE,” he added. Vanessa sent the same message to film producer Abigail Disney, who at the time tweeted, “The man was a rapist. Treat him.”
Kobe was charged with sexual assault in 2003 by an employee of a 19-year-old hotel in Colorado. Prosecutors dropped the charges after the prosecutor refused to testify. He later filed a civil case against Los Angeles Laker, which was resolved out of court in 2005.
Wood’s tweet immediately sparked a backlash in 2020, with fans coming to Kobe’s defense. Actress Kyla Pratt responded that she admired Wood’s work, but “this tweet? How dare you?
Vanessa posted and thanked Pratt for his response to Wood on Saturday.
A Wood representative did not immediately return our request for feedback.
Earlier this month, Wood named his alleged assailant as ex-fiancé Marilyn Manson.
“He started preparing me when I was a teenager and abused me horribly for years,” he said. “They brainwashed me and manipulated me to submission. I just live in fear of reprisals, slander or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call on the many industries that have allowed him, before he ruins more lives. I am by the side of the many victims who will no longer be silent ”.
After several complaints from Wood and other women, Manson, who has vehemently denied all allegations, was removed by his record label and longtime manager.
“Viously, obviously my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are terrible distortions of reality,” Manson, 52, wrote in a statement. “My intimate relationships have always been consensual with like-minded couples. Regardless of how and why others now choose to distort the past, that is the truth. “
