Affected devices include Ellipsis Jetpack mobile access points with model numbers MHS900L, MHS900LS and MHS900LPP.

Verizon said Thursday it is working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on the withdrawal. Verizon also said it is working to find the cause of the problems and will supply spare Orbic Speed devices for free.

All Ellipsis Jetpacks have received two transmitted software updates related to the issue. The first shows the device identification number on the scrolling screen to facilitate exchange, and the second prevents the device from charging when plugged in and turned on to reduce the risk of overheating.

According to the CPSC, Verizon has received 15 reports of device overheating, including six cases that caused fire damage to bedding or flooring. Two minor burn injuries were reported.

Customers who have an affected Ellipsis Jetpack should contact Verizon through the pickup website to arrange a replacement.
